DNA Markers

Microsatellite (SSR) and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers are important resources for mapping in heterozygous species like grapevine. Many SSR and SNP markers have been developed by the grape community since 1998.

Most of the public SSR markers can be retrieved from the UniSTS database.

The IGGP strongly recommend to submit all the public SSR loci to dbSTS and all public SNP loci to dbSNP.

Genetic Maps

The IGGP recommend to number the linkage groups according to this map.

An integrated map containing more than 400 SSR markers has recently been constructed from data obtained from five segregating populations in three laboratories. The maps obtained for each population and the integrated map can be queried at the URGI web site.

A dense genetic map containing 1006 markers (SSRs, SNPs, and AFLPs) which refers to the Pinot Noir physical map cited below and to the Pinot Noir genome has recently been published (NCBI). The genetic and physical maps, as well as the genome sequence are available at IASMA Research.

Physical Maps

A fingerprint based physical mapof Vitis vinifera cv Cabernet Sauvignon has been constructed (Moroldo et al BMC Plant Biol. 2008 Jun 13;8:66).

Two other physical maps of the Vitis vinifera genome are under development:

  • The PN40024 physical map in the frame of the public grapevine genome sequencing project.
  • The Pinot Noir physical map at IASMA Genomics.
